Antrim County voters renewed their 911 millage in the August primary. A modern 911 system depends on more than telephone answering: dispatch staffing, radio coverage, call-routing technology, cybersecurity, backup power and facilities, mapping, and interoperability with police, fire and EMS all affect whether an emergency call becomes a timely response. Renewal gives the county continued funding, but capital systems and staffing have different replacement cycles. That makes prioritization important even when voters have already agreed that the overall service should continue. In a rural county, the best dispatch center still fails residents if a responder cannot hear the call or the caller's location is wrong.
Which weak link should Antrim County's renewed 911 funding fix first?
