Public Comment

Leelanau Township’s Planning Commission has been reviewing the Gills Pier Preserve Project. The township said its May 14, 2026 Planning Commission meeting was canceled to allow staff more time to review and prepare findings, and that the commission would continue review of the Gills Pier Preserve Project in June. Local land-use reviews often involve tradeoffs between public access, conservation, nearby residents, traffic, parking, emergency access, and confidence in the review process. This poll does not assume the project should be approved or rejected. It asks what posture the township should take as the review continues. A preserve can be good for the township, but the conditions matter. Rural places need careful review before they change how land is used.

A preserve is not automatically low-impact. If the plan brings traffic, noise, or safety problems, the township should require a smaller version.

If the preserve fits the rules, the township should not drag it out. Protecting land has value, and delay can kill good projects.
